Maria Serina coached eight seasons at Nativity B.V.M. High School (2004-2011). While coaching Nativity, Maria guided the team to five straight district titles, state runs, and was named the Coach of the Year by the Pottsville Republican on three occasions. Most recently, she coached both junior high girls and boys at Parkland while also working as a volunteer assistant for first D3 Muhlenberg College and then D2 Kutztown University.
In the off-season, Maria has coached club volleyball at Anthracite Volleyball Academy since 2000. In addition to actively coaching, Maria has been the club director, recruiting coordinator, and community outreach/special events coordinator. At AVA, Maria has taken teams to compete as far south as Florida and as far North as Boston. Maria has USA Volleyball CAP I training and has IMPACT certification while she has also served as an assessor and evaluator at USA Volleyball’s High Performance camp.
This position is a homecoming for Maria, as she played for the Fillies and was a captain in both her junior and senior seasons. As a high school player, Maria was selected for several awards. She was 1st Team All-League and 1st Team All-District selections in both her junior and senior seasons. Maria was also recognized as the Times News Player of the Year in her final two seasons while she was selected as the Schuylkill League Most Outstanding Player in her senior year.
After high school, Maria played at Muhlenberg College in Allentown. At Muhlenberg, she was a team captain, and she helped Muhlenberg to achieve the Centennial Conference Co-Champions. Maria became a record holder at Muhlenberg in career digs, season digs, and match digs while also being selected to the All-Academic/Athletic Conference team in both her junior and senior seasons.
Maria obtained her BA in English and her Secondary Teaching Certificate from Muhlenberg College. Additionally, she obtained a Masters of Education and Principal’s Certificate from Wilkes University. She has been employed as an English teacher by the Parkland School District since 2003. Maria currently resides in Andreas with her husband, AJ who is an Assistant District Attorney, and their 3 children Andrew (13), Alexa (10), and Aiden (8).
