Marian Catholic High School Announces Endowed Scholarship Honoring Jack and Marcella Huber

Marian Catholic High School is proud to announce the establishment of the Jack and Marcella Huber Endowed Scholarship, a lasting tribute to two individuals whose lives have been dedicated to faith, family, service, and Catholic education.

The scholarship was officially realized during Marian Catholic's Fourth Annual Distinguished Alumni and Hall of Fame Celebration on May 2, 2026. During the evening, attendees contributed generously to the new scholarship fund, aided by a remarkable anonymous $25,000 matching gift from a Marian alumnus who credited longtime mathematics teacher John "Jack" Huber as one of the most influential figures in his Marian experience.

The endowed scholarship will be awarded annually to an incoming Marian Catholic freshman from the Jim Thorpe area, ensuring that future generations of students have the opportunity to benefit from a Marian education.

The idea for the scholarship originated through the efforts of George Demetriades '77 and former Marian faculty member Jonathan Warke, who sought to honor the Hubers' extraordinary contributions to the Marian community.

For nearly three decades, John "Jack" Huber, P '89, '90, '91, '93, '97, '98, served Marian Catholic High School as a beloved mathematics teacher, mentor, Activities Coordinator, and trusted friend to thousands of students and families.

During his 29 years at Marian, Jack became known not only for his excellence in the classroom but also for the countless hours he devoted to students beyond the school day. He led the Math Tutoring Club, assisted in Guidance Counseling, drove the after-school activities bus, served as a press box spotter at athletic events, and organized the annual Faculty and Staff Spaghetti Dinner to raise funds for tuition assistance.

Jack worked alongside legendary Principal Jack Malarkey '51 and helped shape the culture and traditions that continue to define Marian Catholic today.

Together, Jack and his wife, Marcella Mazur Huber, built a family deeply rooted in Marian Catholic. All six of their children are Marian graduates: Ann '89, Susan '90, John '91, Joe '93, Mary Beth '97, and Michael '98.

Beyond Marian, Jack has devoted decades of service to the community as a longtime member and past president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at his parish in Jim Thorpe.

"Marian was never just a job—it was a family," said Huber. "Marcella and I have been blessed to be part of a community that has shaped our children, our friendships, and our faith. To know that this scholarship will help students from the Jim Thorpe area attend Marian for generations to come is deeply humbling. We are grateful to everyone whose generosity made this possible."

Father Robert Finlan '86 CBHS, Principal of Marian Catholic High School, praised the establishment of the scholarship as a fitting tribute to the Hubers' enduring legacy.  "Jack and Marcella Huber embody the very best of Marian Catholic," said Father Finlan. "Their commitment to faith, family, service, and Catholic education has touched countless lives. This endowed scholarship ensures that their legacy will continue to open doors for young people for generations. We are deeply grateful to the donors whose generosity transformed this vision into a reality."

This scholarship is now the 9^th endowed scholarship that has been created at Marian in the last two years.  They join the following endowed scholarships now managed by Catholic Investment Services, based in Boston, Massachusetts:

Endowed scholarships at Marian Catholic High School are designed to provide financial assistance to students in perpetuity. Each fund is invested, with a portion of the annual earnings awarded as scholarships while the principal remains intact, allowing the fund to grow over time. A minimum of $50,000 is required to establish an endowed scholarship, with flexible giving options available.
