Blue & Gold Activities

Marian Catholic offers the following clubs and activities to enrich our students' academic careers. These clubs are offered during
the school day. Students choose a “blue” activity and a “gold” activity — each meets four times during the school year.

 

BLUE ACTIVITIES

 

Student Council - This group is comprised of students (elected by their peers during homeroom voting) to represent the student body and — once elected — MUST choose this as their Blue Activity. Members will be required to be available for various in-school and after school activities. They must also represent Marian Catholic within the surrounding communities.

Arts & Crafts - Several different arts and crafts will be created with varying levels of difficulty. A $10 fee must be paid to the moderator before the first activity date.

Moderator: Mrs. Nunez

 

Basketball Skills and Drills - This activity is for those who have a background in basketball but want to improve their ability level. It will consist of teaching skills in all areas of the game and then using those skills in competitive situations. Proper basketball attire is required.

Moderator: Mr. Brutto

 

Brain Teasers - This club will challenge your brain through puzzles including sudoku, word searches, crossword puzzles and riddles. Puzzles will vary in difficulty. Requirements include a pencil and eraser.

Chess and Cards - You will learn the fundamentals of chess, including some basic strategies and moves. There will be a tournament in which all members of the club will participate. You can alternatively choose to play the card game of Crazy 8’s!

Corn Hole Club - Come and join us for the classic backyard and tailgate game of skill. Friendly competition is the rule and fun shall be had by all! Experience not necessary!

Drama - This club will try to enhance the students’ appreciation for the performing arts. Emphasis will be placed on helping with the school’s drama productions. Students will be engaging in hands-on activities to prepare them for what they would like to do to audition/help with the drama productions.

FBLA Achievement Club - This group will take this time to work on Champion Chapter activities and/or BAA, Big 33, etc. Time is to be spent earning individual or chapter awards to increase awareness of our club as accomplishments are published on social media.

“Fix-It” Club - This group will learn simple fixes: sewing on a button, fixing a hem on pants or skirts, reinforcing spines on a book, among many other time and money saving skills!

Genealogy Club - Students will acquire a free account with Ancestry.com and be taught the process of researching their family tree. Students will be made aware of an understanding that any information entered online regarding themselves or any living relative MUST be marked private.

Into the Breach - This club seeks to answer what it means to be a Catholic man in today’s world. Answer the call of authentic Christian masculinity and step into the breach. The program includes short videos, scripture study, and discussion.

Jigsaw Puzzles - For those students looking for a visual challenge, this fun activity provides just that opportunity. Puzzles of various sizes, shapes, and content will be used.

Lab Assistant Club - This group will clean, organize and prepare the Chemistry lab.

Moderator: Mr. Valente

 

Pinochle – Join us to create and develop an interest in this classic card game. The game has been, and continues to be, popular from college dormitories to senior citizen centers to backyard picnics alike. Veteran players and neophytes (learners) are welcome to join.
The year will culminate in a partner’s tournament for all members.

The WAY - A young women’s faith sharing and bible study group that will focus particularly on the women in Scripture.

Moderator: Mrs. Matunis

 

Yoga Club - Students will engage in power yoga to increase strength and flexibility. Great conditioning for any athlete or anyone looking to get stronger! The goal is long lean muscles that are needed for daily activities but also to relax and know your muscles.  Students will need to bring a mat or towel for the activity.

GOLD ACTIVITIES

 

National Honor Society (NHS) – Members inducted into this group MUST choose this for your gold activity. New members after the induction in the fall will automatically be transferred from their respective gold activity to this one.

Board Games - Come join the fun. Relax and challenge your mind as you sit and play an old favorite game with a friend. Life, Connect 4, and Mouse Trap are some of the favorites!

“Glam” Club – Students will be instructed by a licensed cosmetologist how to take care of their skin and hair.  Tips will also be offered on braiding and other styling techniques to make a good impression.

Investment Group –  Students will be introduced to Finviz.com and other free online tools for intelligently navigating the stock market before crafting their own mock portfolio for a fun-only, simulated competition among their peers.

Kindness Club - This group will be focused on creating a variety of acts of kindness, especially for the residents in nursing homes and those who are alone. There will be many opportunities to be creative artistically.

Movie Club – Movies shown will be based on real life stories that have taken place. Examples are "Lean on Me,” "Erin Brockovich," "We are Marshall."

Walking – If you enjoy walking as a pastime, this is for you! Club is limited to walking on the track or campus of the school grounds.

Warriors on the Homefront –  Reach out to our active duty military both stateside and abroad. Participate in collections, write letters, send care packages to Marian Alumni and any other requests. Veterans will also be sent holiday cards and birthday cards. Guest speakers will be invited to discuss their personal experiences.

Weight Lifting Club - Fitness and speed are the goals for the students that engage in this activity. Lighter weights will be used with longer sets with a crossfit approach as students rotate stations to focus on all muscle groups.

Yahtzee Club - Looking for a game of chance AND strategy? Look no further than "YAHTZEE", the classic dice game. Experienced players and newcomers are welcome!
